I learned from a great man — my dad. Unfortunately, the Lord called him home this morning. I don’t expect to be blogging for a while, but hopefully Prophet Joe can make some contributions in my absence.

Everything I Need to Know

I Learned in Kindergarten Cowboy Movies.

When I was a kid, anything western was the rage. Ford had the Pinto, the Maverick, the Mustang, and the Bronco. Chevy had the El Camino and Jeep had the Cherokee. Gunsmoke and Bonanza were still hot shows on TV and John Wayne still ruled the big screen.

I learned a lot about life by watching cowboy movies. The struggle of good versus evil was epitomized in movies like Shane (starring Alan Ladd). In Shane, Ladd plays a “retired” gunslinger who wants to pursue a peaceful life of farming with the Starrett family. Rufus Ryker, the evil cattle baron, calls in a hired gun named Wilson, played by Jack Palance. At one point in the movie, Mrs. (Marion) Starrett vocally announces her comtempt for guns. Shane rebukes her with this classic line:

“A gun is a tool, Marion, no better or no worse than any other tool, an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that”.

That little life lesson is about all you need to know about gun control in America today. A gun is a tool. The outcome of using a gun is dependent upon the man (or woman) using it.

In another excpetional cowboy movie, called The Shootist, John Wayne plays the lead character, John Barnard (”JB”) Books. Books is an aging gunfighter dying of cancer. After seeing the local doctor (played by Jimmie Stewart), he gets a room at the local rooming house run by a widow (played by Lauren Becall). Her teenage son is played by Ron Howard — about ten years older than when he played Opie in Mayberry.

In the movie, Books has a philosophical moment when he says:

I won’t be wronged, I won’t be insulted, and I won’t be laid a hand on… I don’t do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.

Perhaps this encompasses the American ideal in foreign policy. Prior to the Korean war, we were far less concerned about ‘American interests overseas’. While America has always had economic interests in other parts of the globe, they were, typically-speaking, corporate concerns and not governmental concerns. During the Cold War, that changed as the U.S. took on the ’super power’ role. I would like to see a return to an America first strategy — oh, I know, in this day and age, we can’t stick our heads in the sand and pretend that terrorism doesn’t exist. But I would have preferred that we take a smaller scale approach to the war; and by that I mean using Special Forces to conduct interdictions instead of an occupying force. Using a hit and run strategy keeps the out of the liberal media headlines and reduces the risks to the soldiers by not having all of those hard targets available.
Current politics aside, I think the JB Books quote is good for the individual too. What is not presented in this context (but it WAS conveyed in the movie) was the fact that if Books was wronged, insulted, or assaulted, he would teach the offender a lesson in the form of a good beating or a belly full of hot lead. A great many Americans (and other nationalities) could learn a couple of lessons there: 1) mind your own business and 2) your right to throw a punch ends at my nose.

JB Books also implied what President Teddy Roosevelt said “walk softly and carry a big stick”. Now that’s good diplomacy!

So said the Prophet…

Of Idiots and War…

Years ago, mental health professionals used a politically incorrect classification system to denote a person’s mental capacity. In that antiquated system, a person with severe mental retardation having the mental age below three years old and generally being unable to learn connected speech or guard against common dangers was known as an idiot. Today, of course, the term is offensive and is not used in the mental health field.

Unfortunately, there are still many idiots among us who are unable to recognize and guard against common dangers. Take, for example, modern Islamo-fascism. The idiots would have us believe that they are just like John Q. Public, except with a “different point of view” of American diplomacy and foreign affairs. The idiots would have you believe that the Islamic terrorists freedom fighters are just the militant wing of the Islamic culture — something like the Black Panther Movement of Baghdad — activists wanting socio-economic change, but resorting to criminal activities.

Furthermore, the idiots would have us believe that these Islamic terrorists freedom fighters are criminals, not enemy combatants. A liberal will tell you that, like the Black Panthers, the Islamic Freedom Fighters should be afforded Constitutional protection and be processed in a court of law under the rules of the Geneva Convention.

To those liberals I say “Bull F***ing Sh*t!!” If that’s your stand, then you are an IDIOT!! These turds aren’t activitists promoting peaceful social change. They’re violent evangalists of death or conversion. No arbitration. No mediation. No compromise. They will put a gun to your god-damned head and tell you to convert to Islam or they will saw your head off. That is your idea of a religion of peace?

And to enlighten you idiots who may be reading this (and you know who you are), and to remind the rest of us, here’s a short list of their terrorist activities “Islamic evangalism” since 1970. This is, by no means, a complete list — just a few memorable highlights:

· 1972: Munich Massacre: During the Summer Olympics held in Munich, Germany a Palestinian terrorist organization, Black September (also known as the Abu Nidal Organization), takes 11 Israeli athletes hostage. During a failed rescue attempt, the 11 Israeli athletes, all 5 terrorists and 1 German policeman were killed. Israel retaliates by giving the order to kill all terrorists tied to Black September, which is linked to the PLO through Yassar Arafat’s group known as Fatah.

· 1973: In March, the U.S. Ambassador to Sudan, Cleo Noel Jr, and the Ambassador’s Deputy, George Moore, are murdered by Palestinians of the terrorist group Black September (see above) along with a Belgian diplomat, Guy Eid, in the Saudi Arabian Embassy.

· 1974: Kiryat Shmona massacre where the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (or PFLP) kills 18 Israeli’s including 9 children. Later that year the PFLP is also responsible for the Ma’alot High School massacre which kills 26. The PFLP is a Marxist-Leninist group believed to be the second largest group in the PLO (behind Arafat’s Fatah group).

· 1976: The PFLP hijacks Air France Flight 139, flying from Tel Aviv to Paris, and diverts it to the Entebbe airport in Uganda. Israeli commandos assault the airport, killing all the Palestinian terrorists and rescuing 105 hostages. Three passengers and one commando were killed in the raid. The lone Israeli soldier killed is Col. Yonaton “Yoni” Netanyahu — older brother of future Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin “Bebe” Netanyahu.

· 1979-1980: Iran Hostage Crisis — Islamic fundamentalist held 66 Americans captive for 444 days (52 were held all 444 days, 14 were released earlier in the ordeal).

· 1981: After Egypt and Israel sign their peace agreement, Anwar Sadat, the President of Egypt, is assassinated by members of the terrorist group Islamic Jihad (a code name for Iranian-funded Hezbollah).

· 1983: In April, Hezbollah (still known as Islamic Jihad) bombs the US Embassy in Beirut and kills 63 people including 17 Americans. In October, Hezbollah (or the Iranian group, Islamic Revolutionary Guard) bombs the US Marine Barracks in Beirut and kills 242 Americans. A second, coordinated suicide bomber attacks the French barracks killing 58 French paratroppers.

· 1984: Hezbollah kidnaps U.S. Embassy official William Buckley (a CIA operative) in Beirut, Lebanon. He is held captive and tortured for 15 months before dying from a heart attack while being tortured. Later in the year, Hezbollah bombs a restaurant in Spain killing 18 US servicemen.

· 1985: Hezbollah hijacks TWA Flight 847 murdering Robert Stethem, a US Navy diver, and dumping his body on the tarmac of the Beruit airport. The cruise ship Achille Lauro is hijacked by Palestinians, a 69 year-old, wheelchair-bound American, Leon Klinghoffer, is murdered and his body and wheelchair dumped overboard. In November, an EgyptAir airplane is hijacked by the Abu Nidal group with several US citizens aboard.

· 1986: Palestinians bomb TWA Flight 840 killing four American citizens, including a nine-month-old infant. The remaining 110 passengers live through the bombing. Libyans bomb the La Belle disco in West Berlin killing 2 US soldiers and wounding 230 other patrons (including more than 50 US soldiers).

· 1988: Hezbollah kidnaps and murders US Marine Corps Lt. Col. W. Higgins while he was serving with the UN Truce Supervisory Organization (UNTSO) in southern Lebanon. Libyans blow up Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland killing 259 people. There were 189 Americans among the 243 passengers and 16 flight crew. In addition, 11 Scots were killed on the ground in the town of Lockerbie.

· 1993: first World Trade Center Bombing by Islamic terrorists kills 6 people and injures 1,000 Americans. This is a precursor to the 9/11/2001 attack.

· 1995: The Islamic Movement of Change plants a bomb in a Riyadh military compound that kills one American citizen and more than 40 others.

· 1996: Islamic terrorists attack the Khobar Towers in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, killing 19 American soldiers and wounding 515 people.

· 1997: a Palestinian gunman opens fire at the Empire State Building killing a Danish national and wounding visitors from the US, Argentina, Switzerland, and France. His handwritten note claimed retaliation against the “enemies of Palestine”.

· 1998: Osama bin Laden carries out the attacks on the US Embassies in East Africa. The attack at Nairobi, Kenya, kills 12 Americans and 279 others, injures about 5,000 Kenyans and six Americans. The attack on the US Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, kills 10 Tanzanian citizens and injures 1 American and 76 Tanzanians.

· 2000: al-Qaeda attacks the USS Cole in Aden, Yemen killing 17 and injuring 39 American sailors.

· 2001: In September, al-Qaeda kills 2,996 in the imfamous “9/11 Attack”. Thousands of First Responders later develop health issues as a result of the attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. United Airlines Flight 93 crashes into a Pennsylvania field before reaching its intended target. The actions of the Flight 73 passengers probably save hundreds or thousands of more American lives. In December, Richard Reid tries to blow up American Arlines Flight 63 from Paris to Miami by detonating a shoe bomb.

· 2002: In February, American journalist Daniel Pearl is murdered after being kidnapped and held hostage for 8 days. His throat is slit then he is beheaded after he investigates the al-Qaeda link in Pakistan to “Shoe Bomber” Richard Reid. In April, a historic synagogue in Tunisia is bombed killing 21, including 11 German tourists. In May, a car bomb explodes outside of a hotel in Karachi, Pakistan killing 14, including 11 French citizens. In June, the American Consulate in Karachi is bombed and 12 more people are killed. In October, a boat crashes into oil tanker off the Yemen coast, killing 1. In the same month, 2 nightclubs in Bali, Indonesia were bombed with a death toll of 202 and hundreds severely burned. 88 Australians are killed in the Bali attacks. In November, the Israeli-owned Paradise Hotel near Mombasa, Kenya is attacked by 3 Arab suicide bombers killing 13 people plus the bombers. Simultaneously, al-Qeada terrorists attempt (but fail) to shoot down an Arkia Israel Airlines chartered Boeing 757 using a surface-to-air missile at the nearby Moi International Airport.

· 2003: In May, suicide bombers killed 34, including 8 Americans, at housing compounds for Westerners in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. An additional 4 bombs killed 33 people targeting Jewish, Spanish, and Belgian sites in Casablanca, Morocco. In August, a suicide car-bomb killed 12, injured 150 at the J. W. Marriott Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia. In November, explosions rocked a Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, housing compound, killing 17 more. Suicide car-bombers simultaneously attacked 2 synagogues in Istanbul, Turkey, killing 25 and injuring hundreds. A t ruck bombs detonated at a London bank and British consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, killing 26 more.

· 2004: In March, 10 bombs on 4 trains exploded almost simultaneously during the morning rush hour in Madrid, Spain, killing 191 and injuring more than 1,500. In May, al-Qaeda’s Abu Musab al-Zarqawi personally saws off American Nick Berg’s head on video. Also in May, terrorists attacked Saudi oil company offices in Khobar, Saudi Arabia, killing 22. In June, American Paul Johnson, Jr., is kidnapped and executed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In September, a c ar bomb outside the Australian embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, explodes killing 9. In December, terrorists entered the U.S. Consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, killing 9 (including the 4 suicide bombers).

· 2005: In July, bombs exploded on 3 trains and a bus in London, England, killing 52. In October, 22 are killed by 3 suicide bombs in Bali, Indonesia. In November, 57 are killed at 3 American hotels in Amman, Jordan.

· 2006: In August, 25 terrorists (mainly British citizens) are arrested in a plot to blow up to 10 jetliners between London and the U.S.

The pattern is obvious and if YOU can’t see it, then you’re an IDIOT by any definition.

Peace Through Victory!

A Tribute to David Fodor (Project 2,996)

In Memory of

David L. W. Fodor (born April 6, 1964 died. September 11, 2001)

David Lawrence William Fodor was born April 6, 1964 in Staten Island, New York. His father, William, was a restauranteur and his mother, Eleanor, was a caterer, so it was inevitable, I suppose, that he became an avid chef. He also had 2 brothers, William and Richard.

In 1992, David married Claudia Petrone at a friend’s farm in Walton, NY (in the Catskills). He catered their weddding using locally grown produce and wines from New York state. He and Claudia lived in Garrison, NY — in Putnam County, just across the Hudson River from U.S. Military Academy at West Point. On the rocky two and a half acre plot, they grew tomatoes, corn, lettuce, scallions and various herbs. They loved animals and had 3 dogs and 2 cats. David also helped out at a Rottweiler kennel in New Jersey where he learned about breeding and showing dogs. As a result, one of his Rottweilers won a national championship.

Professionally, David worked as a tax accountant for Fiduciary Trust International. He worked on the 90th floor of World Trade Center 2 and was the volunteer fire marshal for that floor. When he was last seen by a co-worker, he was doing heroic work. He was ushering people away from the elevators and into the stairwells for evacutation. (The co-worker, incidentally, survived Sept. 11th.)

His wife, Claudia, said of her husband “He was one of the most fully alive people I’ve ever met. He laughed fully, saw the humor and responded fully to life.” In response to the news that he perished while trying to save others, she said “He had the heart the size of the state of New York. If anyone ever needed something, he was right there.

Rest in Peace, David.

I would also like to commend Dale Roe for creating this tribute project.
