I Am Mad As Hell About …
Posted by papundits on June 30, 2008
By Sherlock, The American Sleuth
I am mad as hell about the oil crisis and not for reasons that most people are.
My anger was fueled when I was made aware of the true reasons oil prices are rising and America is being put in a crunch by its politicians. And how we COULD do something about it.
I was informed that, much like the diamond industry, oil-providing nations are holding back on the productions of oil to generate a price frenzy which is then spurred by speculation. That part makes sense to me,
What doesn’t make sense to me is how our politicians can let this happen when we have the resources here to prevent such a crises. In the case of the diamonds, it was obviously a limited market with resources and De Beers was able to capitalize on that. The original upheaval of the diamond market cost people their lives and caused political uproar.
People, just in case you are not aware, the cost of diamonds was driven up because they were made into a rare commodity. Therefore, the harder they were to get, the more they cost. With oil, foreign sources are making it more difficult to acquire a barrel of oil by driving the price up, therefore giving the impression that it is a precious commodity.
Question - how can it be a precious commodity when we have our own? We just have to get off our butts and develop it! When we have our own, foreign sources can’t out price us and we will be able to enter the world oil market, bypassing China, Venezuela and Mexico,
And, Mr. Governor of California - if we had taken care of it 5 years ago, we wouldn’t have to wait 5 years from now for the results of what we do now. Actually, if we had had the best interest of the United States in tow in the 70’s and 80’s, there would not be this problem now. We had a chance back then to free ourselves from the stronghold of foreign oil - obviously an unwelcome staple in our lives then and now.
I was always taught to take care of home first - Politicians, do you hear me???
As prices soar here in the US, we have a recourse. We can utilize our own resources to keep our country from being driven into the ground.
HELLO!!!???!!! Do I need to repeat myself. And guess what, it just might create jobs - spurring our economy. Developing our oil resources here in the US. And these are jobs that NAFTA can’t take to another country! NAFTA is a sore spot with me.
At what point will the politicians realize (if they haven’t already) that the astronomical oil prices will be the downfall of the US. When Americans are spending all their money on gas, there may be no turning back.
And, for those who are reading, do not comment back on gas prices and renewable energy when we know that petroleum production involves more than just gas. My argument here just involves gas. Don’t forget about the other parts to the car that utilize petroleum products and the other parts of our lives that utilize petroleum products.
Renewable energy cannot make that hood to the car and it cannot be used to mix with the pavement to make more stable roads. Renewable energy cannot make the tires for my car, my bicycle or your motorcycle. Petroleum products can. And guess what, we have those resources right here in the United States. Damn the caribou. And, pristine spaces can be maintained if it means giving up some land or water space for the salvation of our country.
[Caribou, like the Spotted Owl adapt very readily to man made structures. This has been proven. ---ed]Arnold needs to get a clue. Of course the lobbyist are having a good time with him. And, don’t get me started on Al Gore. Poor people UNITE!. He’s making millions off fueling your fears.
Let’s talk about global warming.
I only have one question - Does anyone have an almanac?
Did you know that polar bears swim up to 60 miles a day and that it is the law of the land that a huge numbers of species (plant and animal) only have limited numbers of days on this earth. Yes, we as humans do contribute to the pluses and minuses of our environment, but I guarantee you that everyone alive now, will NOT die from the effects of global warming any time soon and that your great-grand children will NOT be saying “Thank You, Grandma for hugging that tree for my benefit.”
Americans, get a clue! The quality of your lives is being threatened by the choices of a few with power who actually benefit either financially or politically from that is going on in our world today. And, getting you to rebel is what they want while they sit on their thrones and profit.
And, don’t get me started on terrorism….. I will say this, though. How can we expect to fix a problem that has been going on since BC (before Christ? And, how can we not recognize that if a true Muslim follows the dictates of the Koran, He has to kill me?
[This is the belief of only 8% to 10% of Muslims. ---ed]Huh?
Huh?
Let me end with this. I love my country. It has been the land of opportunity. That is why people break the law to get here. They want what my forefathers fought for. They want my future. But guess what? I want my future. too.
And as a card carrying American, I deserve it!
The man makes a lot of sense… kudos.
Illinois Senator and Democrat presidential candidate Barack Hussein Obama has another problem with his campaign to win the Presidency. In Albuquerque, NM last week he was lobbying for legislation to insure equal pay for women. In his speech, he said:
“Mr. McCain is an honorable man, we respect his service. But when you look at our records and our plans on issues that matter to working women, the choice could not be clearer,” Obama told the audience in New Mexico, a voter-swing state. “It starts with equal pay. Sixty-two percent of working women in America earn half or more than of their family’s income. But women still earn 77 cents for every dollar earned by men in 2008. You’d think that Washington would be united it its determination to fight for equal pay.”
The problem is that Senator Obama doesn’t practice what he preaches — in fact, he’s part of the problem! According to the Cyber News Service (CNS):
On average, women working in Obama’s Senate office were paid at least $6,000 below the average man working for the Illinois senator. That’s according to data calculated from the Report of the Secretary of the Senate, which covered the six-month period ending Sept. 30, 2007. Of the five people in Obama’s Senate office who were paid $100,000 or more on an annual basis, only one — Obama’s administrative manager — was a woman.
The average pay for the 33 men on Obama’s staff (who earned more than $23,000, the lowest annual salary paid for non-intern employees) was $59,207. The average pay for the 31 women on Obama’s staff who earned more than $23,000 per year was $48,729.91. (The average pay for all 36 male employees on Obama’s staff was $55,962; and the average pay for all 31 female employees was $48,729. The report indicated that Obama had only one paid intern during the period, who was a male.)
McCain, an Arizona senator, employed a total of 69 people during the reporting period ending in the fall of 2007, but 23 of them were interns. Of his non-intern employees, 30 were women and 16 were men. After excluding interns, the average pay for the 30 women on McCain’s staff was $59,104.51. The 16 non-intern males in McCain’s office, by comparison, were paid an average of $56,628.83.
From where I stand, McCain effectively utilizes interns where he can, he provides women with far more opportunities than Obama, he pays women a better wage (and men too), and he practices what he preaches. The same cannot be said for Obama…
I visited my friend, Jane, at her site (http://seejanemom.com) today and a regular contributor named Gary wrote the following:
I myself am supporting Obama at this point, unless Gore jumps in. The next President, however, will probably be Hillary, which should be fun for conservative bloggers.
This got me thinking, so what I want to know from Gary is this — just what about Barrack Obama do you like? Is it because he’s younger? Because he’s Black(ish) and (I’m told) good looking? Because he’s had exposure to the Muslim religion? What is it about this guy that makes the Left orgasmic about his candidacy?
I’m from Illinois and to me, he’s just another fake Liberal suit playing the “I’m from the Government and I’m here to fix your life” card. Illinois politics is SO F**KED UP that I probably wouldn’t vote for ANY Illinois politician for national leadership (Democrat or Republican) right now! Here’s the run down on Illinois politics:
We have Rod Blagojevich as Governor. He’s the guy who insists on living in Chicago instead of the Governors Mansion in Springfield (the state capital). He’s the typical “spend more, tax more” liberal. He always has an affable smile on his face while he’s taking your money and your liberties…
We have US Senator Dick Durbin. The liberal Democrat who follows the leftist mantra — gun control, universal health care, American soldiers are like the Nazis of Germany, blah, blah, blah… He’s SO PREDICTABLE that I can reliably predict his voting record within 5% points.
We have Emil Jones, Jr. as the President of the Illinois Senate. He’s the jerk visionary leader who “coerced” the University of Illinois into dropping its Native American symbol (which was favored by 80% of the IL population) by saying he’d cut the funding to the state’s flagship university if they didn’t. That’s blackmail and typical Chicago politics. it should be noted, at the same time, he dramatically increased the state funding (to the tune of $200 million dollars) to a smaller university (Chicago State University) in his home district. Coincidentally, Chicago State University is now home to the Emil and Patricia Jone Convocation Center. He also blocked a rate freeze on electrical rates (which in some cases resulted in a 55% rate increase) for ComEd customers in Chicago. Is it coincidence (again) that Jones had something to gain from the deal? It turns out his stepson has a consulting contract with ComEd at the same time. Emil Jones
We also have Michael Madigan, the leader of the Illinois General Assembly. He’s a liberal Chicago Democrat who’s looking downright “conservative” compared to his contemporaries on the scene. His daughter, Lisa Madigan, is (again, coincidently) the Attorney General for the State of Illinois. He has aspirations of her being the next Governor of the State and that puts him at odds with both Blagojevich and Chicago’s ultimate power broker, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley. Ultimately, this adversarial role between the various liberal Chicago Democrats is good for Illinois is some respects — they often times keep each other from passing ridiculous bills and extraordinarily expensive budgets.
Although Gov. Rod Blagojevich wanted to pass a $5,000,000,000.00 tax increase on business this year to fund “health care reform”, it was defeated in the legislature. It took the liberal Chicago Democrats several months into the next fiscal year to pass a new budget… and what did the Governor do? He summarily cut $500 million dollars of “pork” from various programs (Boys and Girls Clubs, literacy groups, etc.) using a “line item veto” and then budgeted that $500 million dollars into a scaled down version of his health care package. Now, you can imagine, that didn’t sit well with anyone (well, except the health care providers I suppose). Here’s a Governor bypassing all legal protocol and claiming he has the executive privilege to craft whatever budget he wants (AFTER the General Assembly and Senate passed a compromise budget!). Law suited have been filed… stay tuned on this situation. In other legislation, Illinois leads the way too. I just last night heard an interview with the Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS), Michael Chertoff, who said that Illinois has recently passed legislation which PROHIBITS business leaders from using the new DHS tools to combat illegals from getting American jobs. This encourages illegals to apply for jobs in Illinois. We also have (legislation referred to as) the “Acevada Act”. This allows illegal immigrants (or a portion of them) to obtain in state (resident) college tuition.
I just don’t get Illinois politics anymore. It has become SO SCREWED UP that it’s almost comical… why would you want something that’s a part of this mess to be your new leader in Washington, DC?
Well, it’s September 18th and I’ve been away for 4 months. Time to talk something other than politics. Time to talk sports…
My beloved Word Champion St. Louis Cardinals are not mathematically eliminated — yet anyway. We need pitching. Without Chris Carpenter and the likes of Jason Marquee and Jeff Suppan, we have struggled this year (and “struggle” is being kind). I have seen some promising points in the season. Rick Ankiel will weather this assinine HGH crisis and may be the heir apparent to Jimmie Edmonds in CF.
IF the Cardinals are eliminated, I’m actually going to root for the Cubs. They are another blue collar club with die-hard fans who have been disappointed SO MANY times. The Red Sox broke their “Curse of the Bambino” in 2004. The White Sox brought a Championship to Chicago in 2005 and the Cardinals teamwork bested the Mets and the Tigers last year — I think it’s time to let the Billy Goat Curse rest in peace (IF my beloved Cardinals aren’t in it
)
College football… what the hell is happening this year?? Michigan starts off 0-2?? Notre Dame is winless (0-3) and hasn’t scored an offensive touchdown yet?? Worse than that — their combined rushing yardage for the season is (drum roll, please) MINUS 4.67 yards per game!!!!! Out of 119 Div 1A schools, the Irish rank as follows:
